Frequently Asked Questions

Can I share the pay calculator results for a specific pay amount?

Yes. Simply copy and paste the URL — everything is included in it. It is that simple. The income amount, pay cycle and tax year are all encoded in the address, so anyone who opens your link sees exactly the same take-home pay breakdown.

How is tax calculated?

Our tax calculator is focussed on accuracy and simplicity. We use the official tax brackets and all assumptions are stated on the page. Income tax is applied progressively across each marginal bracket, and the Medicare levy is added on top, to arrive at your total tax for the financial year.

Will the monthly income after tax match my payslip?

The income after tax should match the amount that actually hits your bank account for most people with a single job. We calculate the monthly figure using the official ATO withholding coefficients — the same PAYG formulas your employer uses — so the stated monthly take-home should line up with your pay. Any small difference is reconciled as a refund or bill at tax time.

What is the purpose of the wealth calculator?

To give a general estimate of how much wealth you could build over time by investing a portion of your after-tax earnings in Index Funds. It is a simple projection to illustrate the effect of compounding — not financial advice, as markets fluctuate and the future is uncertain.

I know my salary after tax - how can I calculate my gross salary?

Too easy — You can use our Salary Calculator to work out the gross salary you need before tax to achieve your desired take-home pay.
